The Harker Heights Police Department reported a rash of home burglaries last week.

“They were all forced entries,” Sgt. Roosevelt Wilson Jr. said.

Most of the crimes were reported in the evenings March 7-8 on Jeff Gordon Drive, Dale Earnhardt Drive and Dove Lane. Wilson said items taken ranged from jewelry to electronics.

In another burglary, suspects stole an AR-15, a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun and an SKS rifle from a residence in the 1900 block of Stonehenge Drive.

“That incident happened during the daytime when everybody was gone,” Wilson said, adding that the burglaries seemed to be related since suspects broke in the back doors of the residences and shattered glass doors.

Police took two suspects into custody last week after the pair was seen in one of the burglarized neighborhoods. The two were held on charges of fleeing police and are under investigation for their alleged roles in the string of burglaries, Wilson said.

Wilson reminded residents to secure their homes and ensure alarm systems are activated.
