Two restaurants in Market Heights, along with the Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce Vision XXI leadership class, will host fundraisers Monday and Tuesday for the Harker Heights Food Care Center.

Chick-fil-A’s fundraiser is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. A percentage of food sales during those hours will go to the food care center.

Red’s Corner Grill will donate 10 percent of Tuesday’s sales to the food care center, said owner Todd Smith. People can donate additional funds as well.

At both fundraisers, Vision XXI class members will hand out literature and answer questions about the food care center.

The Harker Heights Food Care Center is in the First Baptist Church of Harker Heights and operated by Executive Director Linda Dawson and her husband, Michael, food service coordinator. The nonprofit is open from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays and feeds 1,000 customers per month.

“What the food care center needs is money … pure and simple,” said Ryan Shahan, vice president of National Banks of Central Texas and Vision XXI class member.
