After serving on the Nolanville City Council for two years, Councilman Duane G. Hampton seconded his last motion Nov. 21.

In honor of his two years of dedicated service to the city, Mayor Christina Rosenthal presented him with the Nolanville City Council Service Appreciation Award.

“Thank you for your extended service and devoted dedication to the city,” she said.

Hampton said he plans to stay involved with the city and will continue to attend meetings as a resident rather than a councilman.

“I wanted a change of pace and to give someone else an opportunity to serve,” he said.

When he wasn’t serving on the council, Hampton worked full time selling and repairing pressure washers at Hotsy Carlson in Killeen. He also runs a commercial cleaning business, is the preacher at North Side Baptist Church in Nolanville and the chaplain for the Nolanville Police Department and Central Bell County Fire and Rescue.

“I don’t want to do something if I can’t give my full self to it,” Hampton said. “I was stretching myself too thin.”

He said he will miss the sense of camaraderie he got from serving on the council.

Hampton led the invocation before every meeting and Rosenthal said he ensured things were “always done properly.”

“He’s a good man and he worked very hard for the city,” she said. “He’s very articulate and intelligent and we are sad to lose him.”
