The annual Harker Heights Veterans Ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Recreation Center, 307 Miller’s Crossing.

The event is sponsored by the city of Harker Heights and the Harker Heights Veterans’ Council.

Residents are welcome to join city officials as they pay tribute to all individuals, past and present, who have served and are serving in the Armed Forces of the United States of America.

The ceremony will feature the traditional wreath laying to honor those who have given their lives in defense of the nation.

Guest speaker for the ceremony will be Lt. Col. James R. Crane, deputy commander of the 3rd Cavalry Regiment (Brave Rifles).

The program also will feature remarks by Harker Heights Mayor Spencer H. Smith, and the traditional wreath laying to honor those who gave their lives.

The Harker Heights Veterans’ Council consists of organization representatives from the American Legion, AMRA, MOPH, MOAA, DAV, Area Veterans Advisory Committee, Veterans Advisor, Department of Texas Korean War Veterans Association, Korean War and Korea Service Veterans, TREA, VFW, Vietnam Veterans of America, 40/8 Bell County, WAC Veterans’ Association, Knights of Columbus, Bring Everyone in the Zone, Inc., Military Veterans Peer Network, Friends of the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Star Group-Veterans Helping Veterans, Killeen Heights Vet Center, and Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce; as well as local government and military officials.

“It is an honor to hold a Veterans Ceremony each year to pay tribute to all individuals, past and present, which have served and are serving in the Armed Forces of the United States of America,” said Nichole Broemer, the city’s recreation and events coordinator.
