In celebration of Arbor Day on April 25, the Harker Heights Parks and Recreation Department will plant 20 Texas Ash Trees at the Harker Heights Community Park from 10 a.m. to noon April 12.

“As a third-year Tree City USA recipient, Harker Heights is dedicated to improving the quality of life for its citizens, and what a better way than to plant trees,” said Heather Cox, activities coordinator.

Last year, more that 50 volunteers helped plant 10 Texas Ash trees and 10 Bradford pear trees at Harker Heights’ newest park, Goode-Connell, in celebration of Arbor Day, Cox said.

“I am looking forward to another big turnout this year,” she said. “This is the perfect opportunity to show today’s youth the importance of trees and the impact it can have on a community.”

The department seeks anyone willing to grab a shovel and join the fun.

The deadline to volunteer for the Arbor Day Tree Planting is today.
