Suicide was ruled as the cause of death for a 24-year-old woman who was found dead after a house fire in Harker Heights on Sunday.

The finding was in an initial autopsy report from the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences at Dallas, released Wednesday.

The woman — who is described as a white female — died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to the report.

Harker Heights police are announced Tuesday that they were investigating the death as a possible suicide.

The Harker Heights Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 1700 block of Harley Drive at 11:21 a.m. Sunday.

After the flames were extinguished, a woman’s body was found, according to a news release. She was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke.

The origin of the fire is still under investigation by the Harker Heights Fire Marshal’s Office and the police department.

Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Miller said earlier this week the department would not release the woman’s name if her death was ruled a suicide. | 254-501-7552
