The inaugural Lights and Sirens Barbecue Cookoff will take place today and Saturday at Sandy’s Lone Star Events, located on FM 439 in Nolanville across from the Pit Stop Bar.

The purpose of this event is to bring the community and first responders together in hopes of building strong positive unshakable relationships that will last for a lifetime, said organizer Heather Rhodes.

Tonight’s activities kick off at 6 p.m. with live entertainment until 11:30 p.m.

An auction starts at 8:30 p.m.

Two special pieces will be auctioned off: a 1911 custom-made handgun and a guitar.

The gun is for the Fallen Heroes since 2010 and the guitar is for police and fire who have been injured but still decide to put on a uniform to serve and protect.

At 7:30 p.m. is the pre-preview of the gun to be auctioned. The chiefs of each department, the spouses, and the families will be there to see it before it goes up for auction.

For more information, contact Heather Rhodes, coordinator of community service, at 254-813-1677.
