The Stewart C. Meyer Library’s ice cream social offers local families a variety of delicious ice cream topped with some fun and entertainment this weekend.

The social is free and open to guests of all ages to come and mingle with fellow literary aficionados, said reference librarian Lisa Reyes.

“We’re going to have different flavors of ice cream and some healthy alternatives along with a group of drummers that will add something different for our guests,” she said.

“It’s almost the end of the summer so it will be something nice to cool down with.”

Reyes came up with the idea for this brand new event as a way to promote the various programs at the library.

“We’re hoping this will bring awareness to the community of what we have to offer,” she said. “We’ve never done it before so we thought it would be something interesting.”

The library will provide the ice cream and staff members will be on hand to answer questions.

Guests will also have the chance to peruse the library’s collection.

“We’re always trying new events so that hopefully people will come and see that we have a lot of things here for them,” Reyes said.

The social is from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Activities Center, Room D, of Stewart C. Meyer Library, 400 Indian Trail, Harker Heights.

To register for the event or for more information, call Reyes at (254) 953-5491.
