The Harker Heights Lions Club, in conjunction with the Harker Heights Fire Department, is collecting toys for local families that need help making the holiday season special during difficult times.

Applying to receive toys this year is available through Dec. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Central Fire Station, 401 Indian Trail.

Applicants should call 254-699-2688 to find out the required documents needed when they come to apply.

For those donating, new unwrapped toys will be accepted through Dec. 17 and can be dropped off at the fire station Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Toys should be age appropriate for kids 17 and under.

Lions Club President and Deputy Fire Chief Glen Gallenstein said he wants to make sure that families apply who are in need.

The Chamber of Commerce and several local banks are also providing donations for the toy drive. The Santa Pal program has been operating for the past 26 years, Gallenstein said.

Toy distribution will take place Dec. 20, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Central Fire Station on Indian Trail.
