Free composting class Monday

The Harker Heights Community Garden will host a free class on composting led by the Bell County Master Gardeners from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Harker Heights Activities Center, 400 Indian Trail.

The class will detail what composting is, why it’s beneficial and how to build, maintain and use a compost pile. There will be a question-and-answer session at the end of the class.

Meet the candidates

Come out and meet Nolanville’s council candidates. Mayor Pro Tem Sherri Morales is running for re-election to Seat 2 and Ernesto Servan and Dave Brackmann are vying for Seat 4. The meet-and-greet is from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at the J.W. Sims Community Center, 408 N. 10th St. in Nolanville.

Painting for a cause

Painting with a Twist, 716 Indian Trail, Suite 220, Harker Heights, is hosting Painting with a Purpose from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct, 20. They will be donating 50 percent of their proceeds to More Paws to Love. To register, call 254-393-0182.

Family violence conference

The Central Texas Family Violence Task Force will host its fifth annual family violence conference, “Bridging the Gap: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach to Family Violence,” from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 17 and 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 18 at the Harker Heights Activities Center, 400 Indian Trail. The conference is designed to bring together all disciplines committed to the fight against family violence and child abuse in Central Texas. To register, go to www.CTCOG.org.
