Yoga retreat Saturday

Enjoy a heart healthy escape, find balance and strength through yoga and enjoy a vegetarian meal at the Heart Healthy Yoga Mini Retreat, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Stewart C. Tree pruning in February

Oncor Electric Distribution will undertake a tree-pruning project in February in Harker Heights. The project will last about four months. The majority of work will be done without having to enter yards.

Areas impacted include:

  • Indian Oaks to U.S. Highway 190, behind Market Heights
  • Elbert Lane, Amy Lane and Coronado Road
  • South Ann Boulevard, from Cardinal to Business 190 and East Veterans Memorial Boulevard
  • Valley Road, from South Amy Lane to Mary Jo Drive

Heights to host blood drive Feb. 7

The city of Harker Heights will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 7 outside City Hall, 305 Miller’s Crossing. To sign up to donate, call the Human Resources Department at 254-953-5600, 877-724-376 or go to bloodcenter.sw.org.

All February blood donors will receive a free donor T-shirt, a coupon for one pound of chocolate chip cookie dough with the purchase of a pizza from Papa Murphy’s Pizza, a coupon for $2 off any regular price pizza and the chance to win a $50 gift card to Academy Sports & Outdoors.

Valentine’s dance set for Feb. 14

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with the entire family with dancing, snacks and other activities from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Harker Heights Activities Center, 400 Indian Trail. Call 254-953-5435.

Military officers group meets Feb. 14-15

The local chapter of the Military Officers Association of America will host a statewide meeting Feb. 14-15 at the Shilo Inn, 3701 S. W.S. Young Drive, Killeen. Social hour with a cash bar starts at 5:30 p.m. Dinner is $25 per person and will be served at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Menu choices are herb-crusted salmon, chicken cordon bleu or London broil. RSVP for dinner reservation by Feb. 7 to retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Pat Christ at 254-698-6655. Purple Heart Ball at Club Hood

Centex Chapter 1876 and the Ladies Auxiliary are hosting the 12th annual Purple Heart Ball at 5 p.m. Feb. 15 at Club Hood, located on 24th Street at Fort Hood. Activities begin at 6 p.m. Purple Heart recipients and Gold Star family members are invited to the ball and there is no charge to attend. Tickets for nonrecipients are $20 each. Dinner will be London broil or chicken breast. No tickets will be sold at the door. Seating is limited.
