DAVA Unit 147 to host fundraiser

The Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Unit 147 will have a fundraiser from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the G3 Driving Range, 777 Service Road U.S. Highway 190 in Nolanville to raise money for the first Operation Stand Down Central Texas. The unit will set up a concession stand during the REMAX Long Drive qualifier competition. Call Joann Courtland at 254-681-8522.

City kicks off summer food drive

The city of Harker Heights will host its second annual summer “Pack the Pantry” food drive July 1-31 to fill the shelves of the Harker Heights Food Care Center. Last summer, the drive collected 162 pounds of food. The goal this year is 200 pounds.

Donations can be dropped off at: City Hall, 305 Miller’s Crossing; Recreation Center, 307 Miller’s Crossing; Library/Activities Center, 400 Indian Trail.

Items needed include baby food, baby formula, baby diapers, toilet paper, laundry soap, dish soap, paper plates, napkins, personal feminine items, canned food and boxed foods. Call 254-953-5493 or email hcox@ci.harker-heights.tx.us.

Ringing of the Bells to celebrate July 4

President John F. Kennedy proclaimed the ringing of the bells nationwide on July 4, 1963. Harker Heights invites all community members to resurrect this tradition by bringing a bell to the City Hall flagpole, 305 Miller’s Crossing, at noon July 4. Arrive 10 minutes early. Call 254-953-5466.
