NOLANVILLE – The city will host a candidates forum at 6 p.m. Thursday at J.W. Sims Community Center, but as of Wednesday none of the candidates had confirmed they would attend, according to City Secretary Ginger Metcalf.
“I haven’t heard from any of them,” she said.
On Sept. 20, the candidates were sent invitations to the forum and given an RSVP deadline of Monday, Oct. 8. If Metcalf does not hear from any candidates by noon Tuesday, the forum will be canceled.
“I’m not going to let it go until the last minute,” she said. “I’ll have to let the speaker know (if the forum is cancelled.)
Denise Hungerford and Christina Rosenthal are vying for the mayor’s seat, a two-year term previously filled by Charlie L. Stewart.
Duane G. Hampton, Robert Meeks and Randy Sammons filed to run in the special election for the remaining year on the Seat 4 council term vacated by Miguel A. Aviles in September 2011. Hampton was appointed to serve on Seat 4 last November.
Council seats 1 and 2 each has one candidate running unopposed for the two-year terms — Dennis Biggs in Seat 1 and Cherese Karlsson in Seat 2.
