Re/Max RedZone and the Texas Sentinels Foundation are partnering to organize Oktoberfest Saturday to help raise funds for home renovations for wounded warrior Sgt. Paul Podhorn and his family.

The event will be held at Carl Levin Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in honor of Podhorn, a Fort Hood soldier who was severely injured from a gunshot wound to the head during a tour in Iraq in August 2011.

The nonprofit Texas Sentinels Foundation donated a repossessed house from Bank of America in need of major renovations to the Podhorns and joined with the Harker Heights Re/Max RedZone brokerage to spearhead the process, said Re/Max broker Patrick Maxam.

“The goal is to have the house ready to hand over to Sgt. Podhorn and wife Karen before Thanksgiving, so we’re hoping to get as many people as possible out there,” he said.

Admission for the festival is free and meal tickets can be purchased for $10 each.

There will be a number of activities for the kids including inflatables, face painting, games and prizes.

In keeping with the Oktoberfest theme, a DJ will play German music and beer will be served at a cash bar.

Saturday’s event is the third in a series of fundraisers held for Podhorn, who described the organizations’ efforts as “phenomenal.”

“When I teamed up with TSF and Re/Max it really opened up a whole new opportunity to life,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to getting a new home for me and my family.”

Carl Levin Park is at 400 Miller’s Crossing, Harker Heights. Call 254-699-2020.
