The Harker Heights Parks and Recreation Department will host its first Fun Day on Saturday at Kern Park.
The free event is part of National Parks and Recreation month in July, said Activities Specialist Sarah Mylcraine.
“It’s an event where people can come out and have fun together and get outside to meet their neighbors,” she said.
Mylcraine, a member of the National Parks and Recreation Association, said she wanted to develop more activities to get the community active and involved in city parks. Fun Day will include an array of activities and games for kids. Participants will also have the opportunity to win prizes.
“We are going to have potato sack races, hula hoop contests and a water balloon toss,” Mylcraine said. “It’s a chance for kids to come out and have fun. It’s also a chance to see what Parks and Recreation has to offer in terms of classes, events and programs.”
Fun Day will allow children to stay busy while out of school.
“It’s a great way to get some exercise in, enjoy the nice weather and stay healthy with other kids,” Mylcraine said.
Fun Day is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Kern Park, 400 S. Ann Blvd., Harker Heights.
