More than a dozen burglaries were reported in Harker Heights last week, according to the Harker Heights Police Department.

Suspects broke into a home in the 100 block of Beeline Lane on April 4 and stole a power washer, chainsaw, electric sheers and other garage tools, Lt. Loretta Fox said. A wallet and credit cards were stolen in another burglary on April 13 in the 1000 block of Indian Trail. Also on April 13, suspects made off with a bicycle at a home in the 1900 block of Herald Drive.

Fox said most of the reported crimes could have been avoided if residents took necessary precautions and secured their belongings.

“The police department asks that you close and lock your garages, especially at night,” she said. “Unlocked and open houses make these burglaries crimes of opportunity, and bad guys just walking around see the opportunity to take a particulate item they want.”

Anyone with information about these crimes can call (254) 953-5400.
