SALADO — Based on the success of last year’s Salado Swirl, the village will host its first Salado on the Rocks event Feb. 9.
With the tagline “Take life with a grain of salt, a slice of lime and a shot of Salado,” the event includes seven stops at local eateries where participants will get a dish of food and a signature drink.
“(Salado Swirl) went over so well and we had so many people compliment it, we figured why not do the same event for someone who likes other types of drinks,” said Lyndsey Barrett, administrative assistant at the Village of Salado Tourism Office. “This is for the nonwine drinkers.”
Participants will purchase a passport before the event, which will get them into a stretch of local restaurants within Main Street.
According to a news release, Salado Creek Winery will offer a Caprese Salad and wine-tini; Alexander’s Distillery will serve an herb-crusted Carpaccio crostini paired with a red martini; The Range will pair a crispy smoked trout brandade with the Famous Col. Spears Pan American Cocktail; the Salado Wine Seller will offer handmade cheddar cheese and their Diamond Back red wine; at The Shed, participants will get a Frito chili pie with Shed Lemonade; the historic Stagecoach Inn will offer their Salado hushpuppies and Stagecoach Southern Iced Tea; finally, Rising Star Vineyards will serve Cajun jambalaya and Salado wine spritzers.
“These events always attract a wide crowd of people from Salado and the area,” said June Ritterbusch, owner of the Salado Wine Seller. “I think they’ll really be surprised how much is going on in Salado.”
Additionally, some locally owned stores will extend their hours Feb. 9 to allow On The Rocks participants to shop in between stops.
A trolly also will be available to transport participants from the north to south end of town, Barrett said.
Participants will receive a signature “Salado on the Rocks” glass and goodie bag with their passports.
