Harker Heights Parks and Recreation in cooperation with the Heights Chamber of Commerce and Market Heights Shopping Center is sponsoring the 13th Annual Frost Fest on Dec. 9, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the Market Heights parking lot.

Hot chocolate, cookies and an appearance by Santa Claus are all scheduled to be part of the event.

Frost Fest provides shopping opportunities and partnerships with local businesses within Market Heights. Vendors will offer handmade crafts, holiday décor, pies, food trucks and local honey.

All products at the Holiday Farmers Market are locally grown and hand crafted.

Nichole Broemer, recreation and events coordinator for Harker Heights Parks and Recreation, said, “Cash will be the preferred form of payment.”

In addition to Frost Fest and Holiday Farmers Market, area residents will be taking part in the Gingerbread House Contest.

The public will get a chance to view and vote for their favorite entry at Frost Fest. All entries must be made of 100 percent edible materials (except for the baseboard).

An entry form is required for the contest and must be turned in no later than today, between the hours of 3 and 5 p.m., at the Harker Heights Recreation Center. For a complete list of the rules and entry form, visit the Parks and Recreation website at www.ci.harker-heights.tx.us/parks.

The Harker Heights Fire Department will have a dropoff area during Frost Fest in which the public can bring new unwrapped toys for the Santa Pal program.

“For 10 years, the city held what was called Santa in the Park at Carl Levin Park and then renamed it Frost Fest, Broemer said. “It moved to Market Heights three years ago.”

The level of excitement about Frost Fest has been high among the businesses in Market Heights.

“We received calls from several of them telling us they were ready to go and were wanting to know the date,” Broemer said.
