Seven Walmart employees were fired after an internal investigation revealed that they were stealing merchandise from the store, according to the Harker Heights Police Department.

Police were notified of multiple thefts on Feb. 25, Sgt. Roosevelt Wilson said.

“We’ve seen this before but not to this degree at one time,” he said.

The store’s security department conducted the investigation before contacting police.

“It does seem to be a continuing criminal episode with each person,” Wilson said of the fired employees.

The thefts date back to November, when Walmart reported items had gone missing. The stolen items ranged between $4 and $400, Wilson said. No arrests were made as of Wednesday.

“Walmart terminated them and called the police to file charges,” he said. “They could possibly be apprehended at a later time.”

Walmart management declined to comment on the thefts.

Wilson said a large number of burglaries were reported in Heights last week. Police responded to 11 vehicle and home burglaries throughout the city.

The most notable burglary occurred between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Feb. 27 in the 400 block of Tomahawk Drive.

“They took a Beretta handgun, a Remington shotgun, a rifle and several laptops,” Wilson said.

Anyone with information about these crimes can call the police department at (254) 953-5400.
