NOLANVILLE — Nolanville Elementary will host its annual Spring Fling fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. today. The Nolanville PTA will allocate money earned from auction, refreshment and craft sales toward building a digital school announcement sign, campus landscaping, and other needs, said Missie Steigerwalt, PTA president.
Spring Fling caters to adults and kids of all ages, featuring silent auction items ranging from a Robert Griffin III-signed football to a free oil change, and children’s activities including pony rides and face painting, a petting zoo, bounce houses, a trackless train, street fair games and a carnival.
One of the most popular auction items is a dinner at Applebee’s with the principal, which allows a student and a friend to interact with Principal Gabriela Morgan.
“It’s an opportunity for the student to celebrate their successes and hard work,” Morgan said.
The fundraiser has grown in recent years, as the PTA added a craft bazaar and food stands in 2012. The growth has helped fund an accelerated-reading program and field trips for the school’s 700-plus students.
This year’s Spring Fling will include a variety of prizes, from gift baskets to free tennis lessons, but Morgan emphasizes the community aspect of the event.
“It is a good opportunity for people to come and be together, have fun and learn about our campus,” Morgan said. “The Spring Fling is for kids. Everything is going to be kid-driven.”
Nolanville’s student council will help serve refreshments with members of its adopted unit, the 615th Aviation Support Battalion.
The school is at 901 Old Nolanville Road.
