A large number of thefts and burglaries led to many arrests in Harker Heights last week, according to police.

“Most of the thefts that occurred were of the shoplifting category where a person was apprehended,” said Sgt. Roosevelt Wilson, Harker Heights Police Department spokesman.

A theft reported at 2:18 p.m. May 8 in the 600 block of Indian Trail led to the arrest of Monica Gomez, 34, who allegedly took property from a business without paying for it.

Another theft was reported at 6:58 p.m. May 9 in the 600 block of Indian Trail. Police arrested Christina Martinez, 43, for allegedly taking property from a business without paying for it. Police also reported a burglary of a habitation at 9:11 p.m. May 9 in the 1200 block of South Amy Lane. Police arrested Milagros Martinez, 25, for allegedly entering a residence and assaulting a victim.

Wilson said police are still actively searching for those responsible for several other thefts recently reported.

“Criminal mischiefs seem to be of the acts of opportunity,” he said. “Even the most innocent appearing act can be a potential crime in progress. As always, report any suspicious activity to your local police department.”
