Dirt is being moved around and construction is underway at the site of Twin Peaks, a mountain lodge-themed sports restaurant.

Fred Morris, Harker Heights director of planning and development, said the city received plans to construct a 7,500-square-foot building at 401 Central Texas Expressway, the former home of Green Leaf Nursery.

The Harker Heights location is to open in early 2014, but no specific date has been set yet. The new restaurant will start hiring staff in December.

“We chose to open in Harker Heights because we feel that the people there will really embrace our concept,” said Katie Allen, public relations spokeswoman for Twin Peaks. “From the incredible made-from-scratch food and ice cold beers to the huge amount of flat-screen TVs ensuring guests will never miss a game, we can’t wait to introduce our concept to the Harker Heights community.”

Morris said he thinks the chain restaurant chose Harker Heights because of its excellent demographics and great consumer market.

“What drew them to come to Heights is our excellent economy here in Central Texas,” he said. “They will do well here.”
