The City Council on Tuesday approved changing the zoning designation for a 19.93-acre tract of land behind H-E-B to a mixed use development.
Austin developer Chris Doose will break ground this summer on a 105-lot subdivision of single-family homes on land adjacent to Clore Road, Indian Trail and Lookout Ridge Boulevard, he said. The development also will include retail shops, office space, walking trails and a green belt lined with native Texas trees. The subdivision, at 329 Indian Trail, will be called the East Rim in the Heights.
Doose said he hoped the subdivision will attract young professionals and retired people.
“I’m really excited for this,” Doose said. “A lot of retired people want to downsize from bigger houses.”
“I think you have a good product,” said Mayor Mike Aycock.
The council on Tuesday unanimously approved the signing of a Chase Bank lease for installation of new video recording systems in 19 patrol cars, three motorcycles and one mobile command center.
The three-year lease will cost the city $279,474.13. The city will own the COBAN equipment after paying the lease.
Video recording equipment “has become a linchpin of our operations,” said Police Chief Mike Gentry. “The system ... provides documentation in detecting crimes.”
The council also approved a concept plan and preliminary plat for a five-acre lot near East Knight’s Way and Cedar Knob Drive.
The Fitzgerald Group owns the property and plans to sell it to Jim Wright Company, listed as the developer on the concept plan application. The concept plan includes water and sewer lines going from the plat to Farm-to-Market 2410 and a 30-foot easement for public access. A cul-de-sac will go in the center of the lot for emergency vehicle access.
The plat is part of a larger 10.34-acre tract that Fitzgerald owns. The land is zoned for business.
