HARKER HEIGHTS — Several dance teams and businesses from within the community came out Saturday in support of those affected by the April 2 Fort Hood shooting that left four dead and 16 others wounded.
The E Center held a two-day fundraiser for the “Military Love Project,” Saturday and today, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the survivors and their families.
“We wanted to show love to the military and come together as a community to show our support for our soldiers,” said Joe Kolar, project manager.
Saturday’s event featured a silent auction, a raffle and dance lessons courtesy of members from Smooth Cool Line Dancers, Paul’s Country and Western Line Dancers, and Terrell’s and Beat Street dance studios.
Food was donated by Let Us Do The Cooking and Big Daddy’s Backdoor BBQ in Killeen.
“We really wanted to bring everyone together and close the gap between the military and our civilian community by showing them support,” said Carolyn Brown, owner of the E Center.
Today, there will be a motorcycle bike ride from Dave’s Sports Bar & Grill in Copperas Cove to the E Center beginning at 2:30 p.m. A car and bike show and an Easter egg hunt will take place from 3 to 6 p.m.
Tickets are $5 at the door. Call 254-554-3600.
