National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
In addition, National Nutrition Month promotes the Academy and its members to the public and the media as the most valuable and credible source of timely, scientifically based food and nutrition information.
According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics website, the National Nutrition Month 2018 theme is “Go Further with Food.”
Whether it’s starting the day off right with a healthy breakfast or fueling before an athletic event, the foods you choose can make a difference.
Preparing foods to go further at home and within the community can have a positive impact, as well. Registered dietitians throughout the community can help people adopt healthier eating practices, while reducing food loss and waste.
National Nutrition Month enables the Academy to provide information to consumers to adopt healthy lifestyle practices. The information can include how to create an eating style, include a variety of healthful foods and how to practice cooking more at home while experiment with healthier ingredients.
Additionally, this month’s theme offers information regarding resources on how to eat and drink the right amount, implement physical activity, manage weight and chronic disease.
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day, which will be celebrated on March 14, increases awareness of registered dietitian nutritionists as the indispensable providers of food and nutrition services and recognizes RDNs for their commitment to helping people enjoy healthy lives.
