Two Harker Heights baseball players, Daniel Cole and Jacob Mitchell, will each be playing in all-star games this summer.
Cole was selected to play in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association (THSBCA) All-Star Game, which will be held June 17 at Dell Diamond in Round Rock. Official time for the contest has yet to be announced.
“That’s a huge, huge honor,” Knights head baseball coach Randy Culp said. “He’s the first one from Harker Heights, and he’s only the second one in Killeen ISD history — that we can figure out — that has made it. It’s really hard to get somebody in there.
“We haven’t had a kid from our district in that game in forever.”
Mitchell has been selected to compete in the second annual Heart of Texas FCA Victory Bowl baseball game at Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton on June 9 at 6 p.m.
Both players were also picked to play in the Central Texas All-Star Game, which will take place on June 5 at West High School at 7 p.m.
“They’re both going to get to play in two all-star games,” Culp said. “That is very neat.”
Killeen Independent School District will host a joint softball camp June 7-9.
The camp will be held for incoming grades six through nine from 6 to 8 p.m. each day.
The location of the camp will be the Shoemaker High School softball camp, and cost is $50 per participant.
Early payments can be made at the Shoemaker front office to reserve a spot, but payments will also be accepted on June 7 at the softball field from 5 to 6 p.m.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Shoemaker softball booster club.
