SALADO — Kole Hearne said he felt relaxed Tuesday.

After an 85-47 win against Florence to end an undefeated run in District 22-2A, Hearne and his Salado teammates took a minute to soak in the moment as the first unbeaten district champs in coach Kenny Mann’s tenure.

“The goal from the beginning of the season is just to win every district game,” senior Kyle Heiner said. “It feels good to get that goal out of the way.”

But make no mistake, as happy as the Eagles were Tuesday, they were not content. Next week, the No. 17 Eagles begin the next part of their journey, where they will look to improve on their Class 2A regional semifinal finish from last year.

“It is a new season,” Heiner said, “so we’re not going to take everything lightly.”Eagle head coach Kenny Mann said his team can improve everywhere heading into the playoffs but said the Eagles’ man-to-man defense in the half court will be a particular point of emphasis.

But, ultimately, Salado is simply looking to continue trending upward after one of the best regular seasons in program history. “I think we have momentum knowing that we beat all the teams in our district pretty well,” Hearne said. “It sends us with some confidence up into the playoffs.”

Lady Eagles fall to Crawford

Salado (20-10) suffered a 68-46 loss to Crawford in the bi-district round of the playoffs to end its season in Gatesville.

Seniors Ashley Adams and Taryn Kornegay finished their Salado careers by leading the Lady Eagles with 12 points and 11 points, respectively.
