The Harker Heights Knights have an overall record of 8-1 in the 7-on-7 Summer League.

“We’re looking good,” said Charles Henderson. “I feel we are looking very strong on both sides of the football right now.”

Henderson is serving as co-coach of the Knights this summer with Clinton Ellis.

“We’re obviously happy with our record,” Henderson said.

“We still have some things we can improve on. But, so far, we’re happy with what we see.”

Returning starting quarterback Troy Smith has looked very sharp so far.

“We keep a close eye on Troy,” Henderson said. “It’s very important that we don’t allow him to risk injury. We don’t let him take too many reps. If he’s thrown a lot, we’ll bring in a different guy to throw.”

Henderson said Heights is showing strength at receiver.

“We seem to have a strong group there,” Henderson said. “Jordan Weller looks very impressive. So do Christian Henderson and Thai Goodwin, and plenty of other guys are looking good, too.”

Coach Henderson said the overall team attitude is upbeat.

“The attitude we’ve taken is ‘Win every day,’ and it seems to have taken hold with our players,” Henderson said.

“They all are bringing the proper attitude — and that’s being upbeat, positive and wanting to win.”
