The team is off to a rough 0-4 start to the season with the Wolfpack Classic coming this weekend, what’s it going to take to turn things around?

We’ve just been talking all this week that you’ve got to hate to lose more than you love to win, and Coach (Glenn) Cunningham’s just really instilled that into us this week and we’re hoping to get back on track this week(end).

You played mostly as a bench player last season but now you’re a starter in right field and on the mound, what’s that change been like for you?

I don’t feel like there’s too much pressure on my, but I try to go out and play the best for my team every game no matter what role I have, and I think I’ll play a good role this year.

This year’s team has to replace several key seniors from last season’s squad, how do you hope to do that?

We feel like we had a bunch of senior leadership last year, but we feel like we have (multiple) people that can take over (those) roles and replace (what was lost).

You’re one of the players who will be counted on the mound this season, so how important will pitching be toward the team’s success this year?

Pitching is going to be most important this year, I’m going to try and get our team as many innings as I can, because we have good players that can come after me, like Damion (May) and Caleb (Dean), that can play that sixth or seventh (inning) role. And we can also flip the next game.

What kind of pitcher do you see yourself as?

I see myself more as a contact pitcher — I pitch to contact — and it’s good that can back me up.

What do you feel is the team’s strength this year?

I feel like it’s going to be our defense. In practice we’ve been really solid on defense and I think it’s going to win us a lot of ball games, a lot of 1-0, 2-1 ball games.

What do you think the team needs to improve on during the season?

Our small ball. We need to advance runners over, hit to the right side of the field, bunt people over, steal bases. I feel if we get that part of our game down, we can do very well this year.

What are your expectations for this year’s team?

I’m expecting playoffs. I know people aren’t expecting us to be in the playoffs, but I see us as a playoff team.

Do you have any personal goals this year?

A personal goal would be to probably get 5-6 district wins for us this year on the mound, and basically help my team as much as I can.
