Solar CenTex wants to spread some sunshine to the victims affected by Hurricane Harvey with a “Solar Savings for Texans” fundraiser Saturday.

The event is from 1 to 5 p.m. at the company’s office at 1901 E. Farm-to-Market 2410 in Harker Heights.

Owner Scot Arey, a retired Army colonel, felt compelled to change the annual customer appreciation event into a fundraiser — but with a solar twist.

“To our customers, Solar CenTex will donate, on your behalf, the electric bill savings that your system generated. If your normal bill was $250, but after solar it is $50, then Solar CenTex will donate $200,” Arey said.

After three years in business, and more than 300 customers, Arey is hoping to raise $10,000 in donations.

“Imagine what our collective savings can mean for those affected by this catastrophe,” he said.

The event is free and open to the public. Hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and cake will be available.

Customers are also invited to write on the solar wall sharing their savings after switching from electrical to solar power.
