A man was killed early Sunday morning while attempting to cross State Highway 195 South.

Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of South State Highway 195 at 1:10 a.m. after it was reported that a pedestrian had been hit, Killeen police reported Sunday evening.

When officers arrived, they found a black male laying in the inside lane of northbound traffic. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin pronounced the 46-year-old man dead at the scene, police reported.

The initial investigation revealed that two men were attempting to cross the highway, and one made it across. When he turned to look for the other man, he saw a white single cab pickup strike the victim and drive away.

A car was driving behind the truck and also struck the man. The driver stopped at the scene and was identified by police.

The name of the victim has been withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.

Police are asking anyone who has information about the white pickup to call the Bell County Crime Stoppers at 254-526-TIPS (8477), or go online at www.bellcountycrimestoppers.com or text BELLCO along with your tip to 274637.
