As a team, the Gatesville Lady Hornets earned an 11th consecutive playoff berth.

But as individuals, seven Lady Hornets earned spots on the All-District 8-3A volleyball team.

“They put in a lot of time, they’re not good just by accident,” Gatesville coach Ricky Phillips said. “Their skills are definitely a result of the work and time they put into it.”

Junior middle blocker Kayla McGiboney was named the Co-Offensive Most Valuable Player out of District 8-3A after helping the Lady Hornets (23-17) finish second in district and make it to the playoffs.

McGiboney averaged 13 kills and four blocks in district play. She shared the honor with Liberty Hill’s Jaycie Pluenneke.

Outside hitters Lexi Hall and Robin Galiano and defensive Mikayla Heckmann were unanimous first-team all-district selections for the Lady Hornets.

Hall averaged six kills, seven digs and two aces while Galiano added seven kills, four digs and two aces.

Heckman, a setter, helped out the Gatesville attack with 29 assists and two aces per match.

Lampasas (10-21) outside hitter Kara Gillis was the lone Lady Badger to make the all-district first team.

Makaylee Mueller’s average of 12 digs and Brianna Poe’s seven kills and three blocks helped the Gatesville duo earn second-team honors. Lampasas junior setter Blake Webb also made the second team.

Gatesville right-side hitter Maddi Sims and Lampasas junior setter Blake Webb were honorable mentions.
