ROUND ROCK — Shoemaker senior defensive back Dwyane Williams picked off Damian Lindley with 8 seconds left , ending the back-and-forth between two high-octane offenses Friday.

The interception sealed a 42-38 shootout win for the Grey Wolves over Stony Point at Dragon Stadium in Round Rock.

“We love being the underdogs, but we love to come out here and prove people wrong,” Shoemaker quarterback Ziere Banner said.

The senior quarterback dazzled, with four touchdown passes — two apiece to Qwoy Blunt and Nahome Anderson — and two rushing touchdowns.

Both defenses had trouble keeping up with hurry-up offenses. Shoemaker (2-1) started the game on their 36-yard line, and tallied three first downs on a 4:22 drive en route to a 24-yard Banner touchdown scamper down the left side of the field.

The Tigers knotted up the score on the ensuing drive, after converting a fourth and 9 at the Shoemaker 38 with a 17-yard Aidan Barrera pass to Jeremy Carr at the 21.

Five plays later, James Gray punched it in the end zone from 2 yards out.

Momentum briefly shifted when Banner was intercepted in his own territory on the next drive, but a sack by sophomore Grey Wolf defensive lineman Kendall Jones forced a 10-yard loss.

On Shoemaker’s next series, a holding call brought the offense back to their own 29-yard line. But a steady Banner completed a 71-yard touchdown pass to Anderson down the left sideline on second-and-20.

Starting on its own 41, Stony Point needed only four plays to find the end zone on an 18-yard pass to Justin Gamble, with 6:44 remaining in the first half. Stony Point led 14-13.

After starting on its own 32, a 65-yard touchdown pass from Banner to Anderson, was called back on a downfield hold.

However, from Stony Point’s 38, Banner converted a first down on a 12-yard, up-the-gut run. Two plays later, Banner threw to a wide-open Blunt for a 26-yard touchdown on the left side of the end zone for a 20-14 lead.

Two drives later, Banner ran for a score on first-and-goal.

It appeared Shoemaker fumbled the ensuing PAT snap, but the Wolves converted a fake field-goal pass from Blunt to Terrell Perry, and Shoemaker led 28-14 with 4:42 left in the half.

“We just saw something on film, and just saw something in previous field goals that we could take advantage of,” Shoemaker coach Channon Hall said.

But Stony Point returner Joseph Marrero took the ensuing kickoff 70 yards to the end zone with 7 seconds left in the half to cut the lead to 28-21.

After the half and starting on their own 39, Stony Point capped its opening drive in the second half with a Donasso 21-yard field goal.

However, Shoemaker widened its lead on the next penalty-laden drive.

A holding call prevented a 20-yard fourth-down touchdown run up the gut by Banner. Finally, a couple of plays later, Banner passed to Anderson in the right side of the end zone for an 8-yard score.

Down 35-31, Lindley eluded blockers and passed to Carr down the right sideline for a 35-yard touchdown with 6:23 left in the game to give Stony Point its first lead, 38-35.

On second-and-19, Banner passed to Blunt, who ran down the left sideline for a touchdown to put Shoemaker up again, 42-38.

“Nobody respects or expects us to do anything, so we just want to play the game,” Hall said. “We got a great district in front of us.”
