Akeem Harrison gets to play offense, DeVarri McCray is leaving himself options and a trio of other Killeen football players will continue their careers together at Hardin-Simmons.

Roos tight end Harrison signed with West Texas A&M, turning down offers from other, larger programs to play linebacker; receiver/athlete McCray signed with Trinity Valley Junior College; and receivers Marcus Hodges and Eric Jackson and linebacker Quantavis Patterson all committed to play for Division III Hardin-Simmons.

Harrison, a Rivals.com two-star recruit at linebacker, received interest from a number of FBS schools, including an offer from Boise State, but he turned them all away to play slot receiver and H-back at WTAMU.

“It was pretty hard, but at the end of the day, it feels like it was the right decision and I feel like I’m going to be home and in a safe place for the next four years,” said Harrison.

McCray, Killeen’s leading receiver this season (43-610, 6 TDs) said his college football career only begins at Trinity Valley. He hopes to springboard to a much larger program, but “it’s going to be hard work and dedication.”

Hodges, Jackson and Patterson all agreed that taking their chemistry with them to Hardin-Simmons together gives them and the Cowboys an edge.
