In the recently released All-District 8-5A softball team, Temple senior pitcher Lexi Smith was named MVP for the second consecutive year.

The rest of the list was dominated by the district champs.

Belton not only swept the rest of the superlatives but added five more on the first team, including its entire outfield.

Sophomore pitcher Sidney Holman, the Newcomer of the Year last season, was named Defensive MVP this season while junior right fielder Skylar Stewart was named Offensive MVP.

A Lady Tiger was named Newcomer of the Year again this season, with sophomore Kaitlyn Jones taking home the honor.

Coach Matt Blackburn was named Coach of the Year.

On the first team, Belton placed senior first baseman Alyson Bishoff, junior third baseman Brittany Bass, senior second baseman Makayla Hernandez, junior left fielder Bekah Alcozer and senior center fielder Kaitlyn Dunahoo.

Copperas Cove had the second-most first teamers among area teams with five, led by junior pitcher Carlee Duran. She was joined by junior first baseman Autumn Hughes, senior shortstop Irene Espinoza, senior center fielder Elliana Doubleday and senior right fielder Tayler Hammack.

Ellison tallied multiple first-teamers also with junior catcher Kennedy Connell and junior shortstop Dusti Douglas earning the honor.

Harker Heights senior catcher Regan McIlvenna rounded out the list of local first-teamers.

Belton, Cove and Ellison each added a trio of second-teamers.

Catcher Shelby Hitt, shortstop Meredith Lusby and catcher/designated player Sydney Andrews represented the Lady Tigers on the second team, while third baseman Destiny Henderson and outfielders Angel Mullen and Zhianna Johnson represented Cove. Pitcher Felicia Camargo, infielder Bryanna Sanchez and left fielder Alexis Watson were each named to the second team for Ellison.

Heights and Shoemaker each had a pair of second-teamers: pitcher Sierra Warren and center fielder Karla Cosme for Heights and catcher Laryn Brinkman and left fielder Estefania Rosario for Shoemaker.
