The Belton Tigers made a pair of first-half goals stand up in a 2-0 win over North Mesquite to take third place at the Meintser Jesuit Tournament in Dallas on Saturday. 

Nick Amato gave the Tigers (2-1) the lead with a goal 22 seconds into the match, then Jose Guzman doubled the lead with 14:04 remaining in the opening half.

Brandan Colter and Ryan Parker picked up the assists on those scores and goalkeeper Chris Noble made four saves.

Belton lost Friday’s tournament game 2-0 to eventual tournament champion Flower Mound Marcus.

The Tigers return to action Thursday when they play Galena Park North Shore at the Governor’s Cup Tournament in Georgetown.

LADY DAWGS FINISH THIRD: The Copperas Cove Lady Bulldawgs finished the Centex Tournament on a high note by beating Elgin 2-1 to take third place.

Earlier in the day the Lady Bulldawgs fell to eventual tournament champion Leander Rouse 5-0.

The Ellison Lady Eagles finished fifth at the tournament after beating Lampasas 4-1. Ellison fell to Elgin 1-0 earlier in the day.

Lampasas opened the day by defeating the Harker Heights JV 8-0.

The Gatesville Lady Hornets took seventh place by beating the Heights JV 4-2.

The win came after Gatesville was shut out by Fort Worth Arlington Heights 4-0.

Shoemaker lost both its games at the tournament on Saturday, being shut out by Robinson 3-0 then Arlington Sam Houston 2-0.
