At Temple, the Wildcats took the lead with a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth, then escaped a jam in the seventh to win their District 8-5A opener.

Roberto Delgado was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI for the Grey Wolves. John Gueits was 2-for-4.

Shoemaker (6-5) had runners at second and third with two outs in the seventh, but Delgado struck out looking on a 2-2 pitch.

The Grey Wolves begin play in the Austin ISD Tournament on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. against Austin McCallum at Nelson Field..
