At Hewitt, the Grey Wolves’ five-game winning streak came to a halt against district co-leader Waco Midway.

John Guiets and Albert Castro each doubled for Shoemaker, which out-hit the Panthers 10-6. Midway (16-10, 11-1 8-5A) scored its runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and then held on when the Grey Wolves (15-10, 7-5) scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Shoemaker, which upset Midway the first time the two played, hosts Belton on Friday needing a win or an Ellison loss to clinch its first playoff berth in school history. The Tigers beat Shoemaker 11-2 in their first meeting, but the Grey Wolves didn’t lose again after that until Tuesday night.
