Before he heads to TCU this fall, Belton senior Jared Janczak picked up his second straight District 8-5A MVP honor on the All District 8-5A team, announced this week.

The Tigers repeated as district champions this year and nearly ran the district table before losing to Waco Midway in the final game of the regular season.

Harker Heights freshman Daniel Cole was named the Newcomer of the Year after a stellar season on the mound and in the infield.

His teammate, senior Caleb Dean, earned a first-team nod for the second straight year as a pitcher, where he was joined by Belton sophomore Tanner Frick.

Belton had a whopping eight first teamers selected to the squad.

Also making the first team for Belton was senior catcher Joey Hogan, senior second baseman Chase Cryer, senior third baseman Mark Herrington, senior shortstop Walker Winders and junior outfielders Shane Stafford and Coby Potvin.

Heights had the next most first-team selections of area teams with four after tying the school record for overall wins and district wins in a season.

Joining Cole and Dean on the first team were junior center fielder Michael Rae Zapata and sophomore infielder/pitcher Tyler Torres, who earned a utility position.

Heights added one second-team selection in first baseman Wilson Owens.

Also making the first-team as a utility player was junior pitcher Raven Sauceda of Shoemaker.

Copperas Cove and Ellison each landed a trio of players on the second team with third baseman Michael Hays and outfielders Ryan Dorroh and Tim Bechtold representing Cove while pitcher Sam Weston, catcher Gerald Soto and outfielder Darius Campbell represented Ellison.

Shoemaker pitcher Roberto Delgado and second baseman Wade Corn also made the second team as did Killeen pitcher Doug Bell.
