LUBBOCK — At the end of Wednesday’s first round of the Class 5A Region I Boys Golf Tournament, it appeared that Belton was more likely to advance to the state tournament as a team than it was to send an individual player to Austin.

Then again, golf can be as unpredictable as the April weather in West Texas.

Belton junior Andrew Paysse shot a 4-over-par 76 in bitterly cold and windy conditions in Thursday’s final round to get into a playoff for the third and final medalist berth for state, then made a par on the first playoff hole to edge Justin Northwest’s Aaron Guanlao and advance to state, April 29-30 at Morris Williams Golf Course in Austin.
