Last season at their awards banquet, the Belton swimmers that would return in 2013 invented an acronym, NBADT — Nothing But A District Title.

They delivered.

Belton ran away with both the boys and girls District 8-5A titles Saturday at the Clements Boys and Girls Club natatorium.

The Tigers were led by the trio of Austin Coulliard, Ben York and Mitch Anderson.

Anderson and York finished first and second in the 500-yard freestyle by nearly 20 seconds. Anderson took first with time of 4 minutes and 52.87 seconds. York was right behind him in 4:55.54.

“It feels really good to be able to blow away (the field) like that,” Anderson said. “It says a lot about the hard work and all the preparation that we put into this season.”

Anderson also won the 200 individual medley and Couillard won the 50 freestyle. Joey Martin added a win in the

100 breaststroke and the Tigers, who finished with 162 points, won the three relays — the 200 medley, the 200 freestyle and the 400 freestyle.

Temple finished second behind Belton with 123 points and were led by Robby Stenman, who won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

“It went pretty well and everyone was working really hard,” Stenman said. “All of it (felt) good. It felt good in every aspect today and to just hit the pool.”

Megan Nichter led the Lady Tigers, who won the meet with a combined 157 points, with victories in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.04) and 100 butterfly (1:00.27). She also swam the opening leg of the gold

medal-winning 400 freestyle relay.

“It feels awesome. I swam really well today,” Nichter said. “We trained really hard with all those practices. This is awesome. I just felt good today. We got new (swim)suits and it was just a lot of adrenaline.”

Carissa Basaldua won the 100 breaststroke for Belton with a time of 1:15.31.

The Tem-Cats finished third after a win in the 200 medley relay, Sarah Hernandez won the 50 freestyle (25.77), Carleight Dickson-Sullivan won the 500 freestyle (5:35.33) and Tanya Bott won the 100 freestyle (55.41).

Bott also won the 100 backstroke in 1:01.51.

Danielle Nelson led the Heights girls to a fourth-place finish. Nelson had first-, second-, third- and fourth-place finishes. She won the 200 individual medley (2:21.35) and took second in the 100 butterfly behind Nitcher.

She started the day helping the Lady Knights place third in the 200 medley relay and finished by helping them take fourth in the 400 medley relay.

“I have been feeling really good,” Nelson said. “I have been feeling really good today. ... I was really excited the 200 IM is my favorite race and I am a flyer, so I always like to take the first 50 out fast and when I pushed off the breaststroke I could tell I had a lead ... and in the freestyle I was just really excited to bring it home.”

Others winners were Heights’ Matthew Sluss, who won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.94 and Shoemaker’s Mark Curley, who won the 100 freestyle (47.95).

“I could see him when I flipped turn, but that was about it,” Sluss said. “I wasn’t really looking for him, I was just trying to get my best time.”

Curley was pitted against Martin in the race, his former teammate for the Fort Hood Dolphins.

“Before the race I didn’t think anything of it,” Curley said. “Then I got on the podium and he said ‘Do you remember me?’ I was like ‘Yeah, we used to come here and get in trouble all the time.’”
