TEMPLE — A year after finishing 5-31, the Belton Lady Tigers clinched a playoff berth Friday, downing Temple 25-19, 26-28, 25-20, 25-16 at Wildcat Gym.
“One thing they’ve had to do this year is learn how to win again,” first-year Belton coach Stacy Meyers said of her team. “It’s been a big lesson and a hard lesson.”
With the match tied at 1, Temple scored the first seven points of Game 3. It took a kill by Monica Gonzalez to stop the bleeding and get the Lady Tigers going.
Combined with a couple of hitting errors by Temple, Belton closed the gap to 7-4, and later back-to-back aces by Kramer cut it to 8-7. Temple kept it close for a while after that, but it was clear things were turning toward Belton, who just rode off Temple’s hitting errors, and created enough scoring opportunities to win the match.
