Copperas Cove played a dual match at Waco on Tuesday, falling twice in lopsided fashion to Midlothian and Ennis.
"We competed very well in doubles in both matches with our boys really stepping up, but were unable to close matches," Copperas Cove head coach Paul Talbett said. "As a result, we were down big in both matches after doubles. We could not climb out of (it).
"Our boys made huge strides today, and we are excited about that. We played two boys teams today that were as strong as any team in our district and competed well."
Copperas Cove had little to show for its effort, though, losing to Midlothian 18-1 and falling to Ennis 17-2. Nevertheless, Talbett believes his team, especially his boys, made great strides in defeat.
"This is a big step with lots of matches to get better before district," Talbett said. "Our most pressing area of improving still remains closing out matches. We have to learn to win big points in big matches."
Copperas Cove returns to the courts Thursday and Friday at the Georgetown Team Tennis tournament, playing Thursday at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Friday at 9 a.m.
