Kaleb Hardy became the first Florence football player to sign a Division I football scholarship Wednesday.

Hardy signed with Incarnate Word despite not being guaranteed a chance to play quarterback, where he played the past two seasons for the Buffaloes. The Cardinals recruited Hardy as an athlete and see the senior as a linebacker or defensive end prospect, although, he could see time at quarterback depending on how he performs when he arrives in San Antonio.

Currently, UIW is a member of Division II's Lone Star Conference. On August 2012, UIW accepted an invitation to move up to Division I as a member of the Southland Conference effective July 31, 2013. The football team will be a Division I independent in 2013, then start conference play in 2014 due to schedule commitments.
