Gatesville gave up 13 hits to No. 2 Liberty Hill, and the Lady Panthers capitalized on a number of them en route to beating the Hornets 8-1 on Friday evening.

Hornets senior right fielder Ashley Cook was 2 for 3 with a RBI, but received little help from her teammates, and Gatesville finished the game with only four hits.

The loss eliminated any chance Gatesville had of earning a share of the District 8-3A championship as Liberty Hill (27-2, 10-0) finished district play undefeated.

The Hornets (19-14, 8-2) secure the district's second seed with the loss and will play Stephenville in the bi-district round of the playoffs at Brownwood at a date and time yet to be determined.
