The 17th annual Southwest PBA Region Killeen Open concluded Sunday with the final field of 16 bowlers hoping for the trophy, first-place prize money, but most importantly, a PBA Region title.
Keller resident Chris Hibbittts II, who was celebrating his 16th wedding anniversary, led the two days of competition from the start and bowled the final match against Joe Findling of Mesquite.
The title match was close for nine frames, but Hibbitts’ luck ran out when he missed a single-pin spare and Findling went on to win the title 232-221.
It was the seventh Killeen Open for Findling and he was presented a check for $2,750 and an Eagle trophy by tournament host Dick Atkinson, the proprietor of Hallmark Lanes.
Local bowlers making the final cut were Eric Odette and Sandi Charles, the lone woman in the field. Odette was quickly eliminated, as was Charles, who fell to five-time winner Mike Scroggins.
The other big names — Wes Malott and Nathan Bohr — just couldn’t get untracked, and Malott and Scroggins both fell to Austin’s David Anthony. Bohr lost to Findling.
