For the first time in 12 years, the Ellison Eagles are preparing for the playoffs.
And they ended their season, exactly how they wanted to — with another win.
The Eagles shut out Killeen 4-0 on Tuesday and wrapped up the No. 3 seed in District 8-5A with a 10-4 record and a 16-6-1 record overall.
“It has been a ‘not me, but the team’ attitude,” Ellison coach Niles Dunnells said. “That’s not to say it has not been that way in previous years, but these guys have really put in extra work.”
Nathan Diederich put Ellison up 1-0 in the 17th minute and four minutes later Shabba Armbrister assisted senior forward Ryan Stuckey for a goal. Stuckey then returned the favor later in the half and gave Ellison a 3-0 lead.
Armbrister added the Eagles’ fourth goal off a double assist from Jonathan Keene to Diederich to Armbrister for the score.
“Our goal is to always play a perfect game,” Dunnells said. “If we get ourselves into defensive shape, everything else just kind of takes care of itself.”
Ellison will more than likely play Duncanville in the first round of the playoffs next Thursday or Friday in Waco. Duncanville has to win one of its last two games to finish in second place in District 7-5A.
