Shabanese Brown led the Copperas Cove softball team in nearly every offensive category and was awarded Tuesday night for her effort this season. The senior was named the Lady Bulldawgs' most valuable player and also took home the team's batting award at its end-of-year banquet.
Four other awards were also handed out, with each going to two players each.
The Golden Glove award went to senior Savannah Seybold, who was one of three District 12-5A first-team picks, and junior Justine Hartwell, a second-team selection.
The Battlin Bulldawg recipients were Mindy Troutman and Jesenia Moreno, while freshmen Ashley Hartwell and Brianna Sinclair shared Newcomers of the Year.
The Ironman Award went to Katelynn Stephens and Paige Thornhill.
Spring game changes
Cove's football final scrimmage has been altered from those of year past. Instead of the sub-varsity teams starting early with the varsity to follow, Cove's No. 2 varsity offense and defense will square off from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Those two will be paired up with the JV Blue offense and defense.
There will then be a break (5:30-6:30 p.m.) where the two Cove junior high schools will have a 7-on-7 competition.
After the break, Cove's No. 1 varsity units will pair up with the JV Gold for their portion of the scrimmage. The break in action means a starter won't stay on the field the entire time when he goes to a No. 2 spot, or need to constantly change jerseys to go from one side of the ball to the other.
