Alex Cooke took first overall in 16 minutes, 25 seconds to lead five Eagles runners in top-seven overall finishes as Salado easily swept both the boys and girls district crowns at the District 22-2A cross country meet Monday at Tenroc Ranch in Salado.

The Eagles blew away second-place Cameron Yoe by more than half, 22 to 49, while Florence finished third with 102 points. In the girls division, Salado edged Little River-Academy 38 to 43, with two runners in the top three.

Following closely behind Cooke were fellow senior teammates Robert Pereira (third, 17:00.7), Patrick Murray (fifth, 17:25.5), Nick Cooke (sixth, 17:31) and Jon Franz (seventh, 17:41.8). Salado also had a ninth-place finish from senior Eric McGregor (17:54.3) and 11th-place for freshman Daniel Thoreson (18:21).

Florence was led by sophomore Alfredo Pena, who took 10th overall in 18:17.7.

On the girls side, Salado junior Ashley Adams won the individual title in 13:06.8, freshman China Saxton took third at 13:27.5, and sophomore Arianna Rangel finished eighth (13:53.9).
