Copperas Cove defensive lineman Tyrell Thompson has committed to the University of Houston, according to Copperas Cove ISD sports information director Joe Lombardi.

“I loved the campus when I went down there and the guys on the team made me feel at home,” Thompson said in a news release issued Tuesday. “I connected well with defensive line coach Ricky Logo, who recruited me.”

Thompson, who has started at defensive end for Copperas Cove the past two seasons, had 50 tackles — eight for losses — and two sacks as a junior in 2013.

“I feel like I can do really big things at U. of H,” Thompson said.

Thompson is the second Bulldawg to commit to a Division I school. Star quarterback Manny Harris pledged to Texas-San Antonio last month.

Verbal commitments are nonbinding. The national signing period for football players begins Feb. 4.
